It’s been awhile… a long one… since I’ve written a blog post. I have quite a few things going on so let’s dive right in.
In May I’m going to host my second annual Multicultural Romance Blog-A-Thon. Last year’s was a huge success! There were several thousand hits to my site during the blog-a-thon last May. This year I plan to add another component to it and offer authors of multicultural romance a chance to take advantage of all the exposure, by offering side or top bar ads- for the moth for only 5 bucks. Once I figure out the logistics, I’ll post more info.
Speaking of new ventures in the near future, I’ll be hosting Blurb Battles to authors as well. As a reader I devour blurbs and a good one will have me hitting purchase (or checking out) a new book in a heartbeat. The winner(s) will win a gift card and the Blurb Battle Champion title. This contest will be a treat to other fellow blurb lovers.
Besides reading romance novels and penning them, there’s another aspect of the genre I’ve been doing- editing. I’m one of those readers that as I read (and often after I finish) a novel I think about things that could’ve been done to make it even better. For the last several months I’ve been working on my editing skills as an intern with Entangled Publishing. I’ve read a lot of novels, read/take a lot of notes and edited quite a few novels. To be honest I’ve loved every minute of it. So much so that in the near future I’m going to offer freelance editing services. I do have a degree in English. It’s time to dust it off and use it as I intended to when I was an undergrad; before life took over and beat the ish out of me.
This brings me to….. A couple of weeks ago I read and re-blogged an amazing post that served as an epiphany. “I Quit my Teaching Job” on Suzie81 Speaks was that post. I read it (twice…maybe three times), read the comments and thought a long time about a few things. In my other life I’m a middle school English-Language Arts teacher. I could relate to quite a few of the things Suzie mentioned. I understood her anger, frustration and the overall “I’ve had enough of this….” tone (she didn’t state that, she might not have even been thinking that…probably just my feelings coming to the forefront…lol). I decided to make the 2015/2016 the last year I teach full-time. That’s my goal. I love educating young people but I love editing, writing and reading even more. I have one school year figure out a way to make it happen- in other words I need to get my ass in gear pronto. I need to stop making excuses and start making things happen.
Works in Progress
I’m working on two manuscripts currently. One is a paranormal romance featuring a witch who’s been running away from somethings and another is about a new adult who has to go back home to face somethings (including the guy who stripped her heart). Heavy stuff right? I’m in the first few chapters of both and my goal is to have them finished by June. So during Spring Break I’ll be writing my butt off. I plan on sharing snippets of the manuscripts on my blog and would love feedback on them. So stay tuned that will be happening in the near future as well.
So as you can see I’ve been a busy bee. If I haven’t posted something for anyone it’s not because I don’t give a damn. It’s honestly because I’ve been overwhelmed balancing my work life, family life and writing life. So please consider this an apology. I will be posting somethings I’ve neglected.
So thanks for reading this long post. I will be blogging more regularly now and welcome your thoughts, snarky comments and general opinions in the comment section below.
